evaluation of morphology and anatomical measurement of nasopalatine canal using cone beam computed tomography
Authors
abstract
objectives: precise radiographic assessment of the nasopalatine canal is required to prevent implant failure. the purpose of the current study was to determine the three dimensional (3d) morphology, as well as the dimensions of the nasopalatine canal using cone beam computed tomography (cbct). materials and methods: in this descriptive cross-sectional study, maxillary cbct images from 300 patients (150 men, 150 women) were retrospectively evaluated. sagittal and coronal views were reviewed to determine the nasopalatine canal morphology and dimensions. the difference in canal dimensions between men and women was evaluated using the student’s t-test while the difference in canal morphology between the two sexes was assessed using chi-square test. results: a total of 199 (66.3%) patients had type a canal (cylindrical without a branch), 69 (23%) had type b canal (a canal with a branch in the upper part), and 32 (10.7 %) had type c canal (a canal with a branch in the middle part). incisive foramen diameter was 4.7±1.11mm on the sagittal section. alveolar bone width in the anterior part of the canal was 12.3±1.7mm in the upper one third, 10.7±1.7mm in the middle one third, and 9.8±1.4mm in the lower one third. the angle of canal with palate was 109.5±5.7°. on the coronal sections, canal length was 14.1±3.0mm, incisive foramen diameter was 4.6±1.0mm, and canal diameter in the nasal floor was 5.1±1.0mm. conclusions: significant differences in canal morphology were observed among the patients and cbct was useful in determining nasopalatine canal morphology and its dimensions before implant placement. keywords: anatomy; cone-beam computed tomography; dental implants; maxilla

full textMorphology and Dimensions of Nasopalatine Canal: a Radiographic Analysis Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography
Statement of the Problem The surgical procedure of dental implantation in anterior maxillary area may be limited by the shape and size of nasopalatine canal (NPC). CBCT imaging provides three-dimensional information for surgical planning. Purpose This study is designed to evaluate the anatomy of NPC in a selected Iranian population. Materials and Method In this cross sectional study, CBCT i...
full textInvestigating Root Canal Number and Morphology of Mandibular Anterior Teeth Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography
Background and purpose: Root therapy will be successful if it is done based on a correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan with the knowledge of morphology and tooth anatomy, debridement, disinfection, and obturation of the entire root canal system. This study aimed to investigate the number and morphology of canals in root canals mandibular anterior using cone beam computed tomography (...

PURPOSE This study was performed to evaluate the general anatomy and morphology of the nasopalatine canal using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and to determine the human anatomic variability of the nasopalatine canal in relation to age and gender. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study included 100 subjects aged between 20 and 86 years who were divided into the following 3 groups: 1) 20-34 yea...
full textEvaluation of mandibular premolars root canal morphology by cone beam computed tomography
Introduction: To achieve a successful endodontic treatment, the clinician has to identify the different canal configurations.mandibular premolars have the wide variety of root canal morphology and they are known as the most difficult teeth to treat in endodontics.CBCT provides a non-invasive 3D confirmatory diagnosis as a complement to conventional radiography. The aim of this study was to...
full textEvaluation of Canal Transportation and Centering Ability of Safesider and K-Flexofile: Using Cone-beam Computed Tomography
Abstract Background and aim: Maintaining the original geometry of canal is an important parameter in successful root canal treatment. The aim of this original study was evaluation of apical root canal transportation and centering ability of SafeSider and K-Flexofile using cone beam computed tomography. Materials and Methods: Mesiobuccal root canals of maxillary first molars, with 20-40° curvatu...
